Upper Marlboro drives through light displays

The Watkins Park Festival of Lights will be returning to Upper Marlboro later this month.

The park will be illuminated with more than two million lights creating fanciful displays such as candy canes, toy soldiers, snowflakes, gingerbread men, and Santa. New displays are added every year, and this year there will be an LED 54-foot musical tree. Stationery printers often use lighted displays like this on their Holiday Cards.

This event will have a drive-through format so guests may stay in their vehicles and listen to holiday music as they view the displays. To enhance the experience, guests may bring their own 3D glasses or check with the staff at the park admission booth to see if they have any for purchase.

Admission will be $15 at the park entrance for cars, $20 for limos and mini-buses, and $30 for busses. Multi-visit passes are also available. Guests are encouraged to bring canned goods for local food banks.

This Sunday, November 23, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, a special Bikes and Lights event will allow people on bikes to view the lights in a more leisurely way. Admission for that night will be $5 per bike.

Festival of Lights will take place every night from 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm from November 28 to January 1 at Watkins Regional Park, 301 Watkins Park Drive.
