The Red Cross will host an area blood drive in Upper Marlboro in the coming weeks. All blood types are needed due to Covid’s impact on the supply.
In collaboration with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, The Town of Upper Marlboro has scheduled the drive, and notes that type O blood is in particularly short supply and is needed to refueled for the summer months.
Generally, donors must be 17 years old at a minimum, weigh 110lb or more, and be in good health. People having received a Covid vaccination are encouraged to donate blood as there is no waiting period after being vaccinated. The only stipulation is that they display no symptoms and are feeling well. They must provide the vaccination information, including the manufacturer’s name.
Banners are often used to designate specific areas at community events where large gatherings occur. The banner printing can include location information, directions, host or sponsor recognition, and other relevant details needed for a smooth flow.
Donors are requested to schedule an advance appointment via the American Red Cross Blood Donor online application. Appointments may also be booked by calling 1-800-Red Cross.
The blood drive will be held on July 9 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Upper Marlboro Community Center, which is located at 5400 Marlboro Race Track Road. Information is available on local government websites, as well as the Red Cross site. For more information, call 301-627-6905.
