Prince Georges Community College earns highest ranking

The 2018-19 Maryland School Report Card of the Maryland State Department of Education recently gave the Academy of Health Sciences (AHS) at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) the highest rating across the state. PGCC is based in Largo and has a campus in Upper Marlboro.

Seven years ago, a partnership was developed between and Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) and PGCC by the AHS to enable students to receive an associate degree and a high school diploma. The original focus was on careers in health sciences, but the Teacher Preparation Academy was added in 2017 to enable students to earn an Associate of Arts in Teaching. Brochure printing can be used by such schools to provide more information to students about such programs and the options offered to them.

Dr. Charlene M. Dukes, President of PGCC, said that the AHS is continuing to go beyond expectations in what it achieves. The original premise of the program was to enable the most vulnerable students to earn a college degree, and he believes this recognition is affirmation that the program is successful.

Dr. Kathy Richard Andrews, Principal of AHS, added that this achievement comes after many years of a rewarding partnership. The faculty and staff have worked hard, she said, and have been committed to the students and their families.
