A special meeting was held this month in Upper Marlboro where Wanda Leonard was elected as mayor of the town.
Poster printing can be called upon to make such announcements, so communities become aware of changes in their leadership.
Leonard, the second African American mayor of the town since it was incorporated 313 years ago, iterated her goals for the future of the town. She wants to continue the work of her predecessor, Tonga Turner who resigned due to family and other job issues, and to grow the town in her own vision of collaboration and partnerships.
With an extensive background in public service, Leonard was a member of the Municipal Association of Prince George’s County and served in the Maryland Municipal League.
Before her election as mayor, Leonard was a commissioner for the town for the past year and a half working with Linda Pennoyer, Town Commissioner.
Leonard has also spent a substantial part of her career in community outreach, serving as a Donate Life Ambassador with Washington Regional Transplant Community, a member of the board for Family Advocacy, and a court-appointed special advocate for neglected and abused children in the District of Columbia. She has also been involved in public safety as a police volunteer in police services for Prince George’s County and attended the Police Citizens Academy of Prince George’s County.
