The Health Sciences’ Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) and the George Washington (GW) University School of Medicine has recently named Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) as a partner institution.
Senior associate dean for and professor of Health Sciences at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Reamer L. Bushardt, PharmD, said that because of the proximity of the college to underserved areas and track record of success in recruiting and retaining disadvantaged students, the college is an important collaborator in the program.
A grant of over $3 million which funds the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Health Workforce provides scholarships to those students who are interested in pursuing careers in health. These scholarships range from $2,500 to $10,000.
Those who live in the Upper Marlboro and main Largo campus areas would most likely want to take advantage of these scholarships. Banner printing can be used in such areas to inform potential students of such scholarships and the other benefits such programs provide.
These scholarships help students who are faced with economic and educational disadvantages in their efforts to pursue training in the healthcare industry. It also addresses inequities these students may have regarding disparities in chronic illnesses, accessibility, and provider shortages.
Bushardt added that this is an important way to enable underrepresented and disadvantaged individuals to pursue their educational goals in the healthcare field.
