Two policemen from Springfield College and the Springfield Police Department recently teamed up to ensure every child in the area would be warm during the upcoming winter season.
A donation was held at Cyr Arena in Forest Park and the policemen collected gloves, hats, scarves, and coats to give to needy children. The effort was initiated by officer Cheri Vurton who noticed that many students in the city did not have the needed Outerwear to keep warm during the cold winter months; she wanted to do something to change that.
A similar event was held last year and was such a success that Vurton and her associate decided to repeat it this year. She said that when the coats and other items were brought to the schools that everyone seemed grateful. Vurton also expressed her thanks to those who donated something and is appreciative of everyone in the community coming together in this fashion to help the less fortunate. Flyer printing can be used by departments such as these to raise awareness about such situations and publicize their efforts to help those in need.
Vurton added that they will also accept cash donations, for those that do not have gentler used garments. The students will be receiving these items in the very near future.
