Shopping center opens in Springfield

Springfield Crossing is now open. It occupies what was once the site of Eastfield Mall, which closed in 2023.

This project was an investment of $77 million designed to revitalize retail options in the area. Springfield Crossing has 360,000 square feet of opportunities for shopping and officials hope it becomes a new destination along Boston Road. Such sites can benefit from banner printing to inform residents of their major offerings and services.

It is expected that 800 jobs will be created as a result of the new shopping center. Most of those working at the center will be from western Massachusetts. Founder of Onyx Partners, Anton Melchionda, said that his vision of the shopping center has come to fruition and added:

“it will be a force to be reckoned with.”

He expects that tax revenue from the shopping center will be five or six times what is was from the previous shopping center. He added that it will be the ideal place for shopping and dining and experiencing everything that is offered in the city.

The Eastfield Mall had been opened 50 years before its closure two years ago. It was a familiar landmark to people in the area. The goal of its development into Springfield Crossing is to bring shopping options for which consumers have waited for many years and enhance the overall economic landscape of the region.
