The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has recognized the Finance Department of the city of Springfield, led by Cathy Buono, Chief Administrative and Financial Officer (CAFO) with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2026.
News of such awards is often disseminated throughout a city with poster printing in key places.
Established in 1984, the Budget Awards Program assists and encourages local and state governments to prepare very high-quality budget documents which reflect the guidelines set by the best practices on budgeting of the GFOA and the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting. The continued commitment of the Finance Department to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting is reflected in this award. This is the 19th year in a row that the city has received this award.
Buono thanked her dedicated finance team for their hard work in creating a high-quality budget that was deserving of this award. She said that the department works diligently to prepare a balanced budget that enables a quality level of service to be maintained for the businesses and residents of the city. She added that the award validates all the work that the team does as it strives to move the city forward and maintain financial excellence.
