Park for food trucks opens in Springfield

Springfield is now home to its first official food truck park.

Called “BREW Park,” which is short for “Boston Road Eats on Wheels,” the park is on Boston Road. It is on the property that once was the home of Metro Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.

Natalie Mercado, the manager of BREW Park, said that the park is more than entertainment and food as it is about community and providing a place where people can slow down and connect with others. She is hoping that it will enable people to create lasting memories in a welcoming and safe environment such that it is more than a parking lot that gathers together a lot of food trucks.

Mercado said that she had the idea for such a park for many years. Zaida Govan, City Councilor from Ward 8, and State Representative Orlando Ramos said that it took months to work with the neighborhood council to ensure the park met all the rules of the neighborhood.

Food options will rotate in the park on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Most food trucks will be open Wednesday through Sunday, although each vendor will set their own schedule. Flyer printing can be used to highlight such food truck vendors and their unique offerings.

The plan is that by November there will be indoor seating, spaces for craft vendors, restrooms as well as activities and games.
