Springfield receives funding for historic building transformations

McCaffery Interests has been awarded $3 million out of a total of $15.3 million awarded by the Healey Driscoll Administration in tax credits given to five cities. These tax credits are for the repurpose of four buildings in Springfield and will include the Colonial Building on Main Street, the Masonic Clock Tower Building in State Street, the Stockbridge Building on Stockbridge Street, and another building on Main Street.

These four historic buildings will be converted into ground-floor retail and commercial space and 99 apartments, 79 of which will be market-rate. The apartment units will offer studios, small units with one bedroom, larger units with one bedroom, and units with two and three bedrooms. Amenities will include a secure package room, a fitness center, entertainment and coworking spaces, pet-friendly facilities, and destination elevators. The buildings to undergo renovations are close to local attractions including MassMutual Convention Center, MGM Springfield, and popular museums.
