Springfield recognized for budgeting process
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has recognized the Finance Department of the city of Springfield with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2025.
This is the 18th consecutive year in which the city has received this award. The department is led by Cathy Buono, Chief Administrative and Financial Officer (CAFO). News of such accomplishments and distinctions is often made known throughout a city with flyer printing.
Established in 1984, the Budget Awards Program assist and encourage local and state governments to prepare the very highest quality budget documents that reflect the best practices on budgeting.by the GFOA and the guidelines created by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting. The award demonstrates how the Finance Department of Springfield is committed to meeting the highest principles of budgeting for the government.
Mayor Domenic Sarno said that this is a tremendous accomplishment, as it has been 18 years in a row where the Distinguished Budget Award has been given to the city. He congratulated CAFO Buono and the team in the department for their dedication and hard work on this achievement.
Buono also thanked her team for their efforts in creating a quality budget for the next fiscal year. She said that everyone works hard to produce a budget that is balanced and maintains a high level of service to businesses and residents.
