Applications are now open in Springfield for the Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-Off Program for Homeowners of the city.
The program enables eligible seniors to work 67 hours in exchange for a property tax credit of $1,000. Such programs can benefit from brochure printing to provide more details about eligibility, the types of work opportunities that are available, and how to apply for such a program.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno said that the city benefits when its seniors are more involved in the community. He added that this program will help homeowners who are senior citizens with paying their taxes on their residential property, acknowledge their skills and abilities, and increase the participation and involvement of senior citizens in the school district and the government. He expressed his appreciation of the team for coming together to get this program running.
Patrick Greenhalgh from the Board of Assessors and the mayor said that homeowners may be eligible to such tax relief based on their personal circumstances. They added that the eligibility age has been reduced from 70 years of age to 65 and the amount of the abatement increased from $500 to $1,000.
Applications for this program are available on the city’s website and hard Copies can also be found at the neighborhood senior centers in the city. All applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on Monday March 31.
