Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) is partnering with Head Start, an early childhood education program in western Massachusetts, to expand child care that is affordable for marginalized families on campus. Head Start will have a few classrooms at STCC that will offer educational opportunities for children in pre-kindergarten to kindergarten before they enter elementary school.
Nicole Blais, CEO of Head Start, expressed her excitement about this partnership as it also will provide an opportunity for students in the early childhood education program at the college direct access to teach young children. She said that this will ensure that people understand that early childhood education and care is a profession and that the teachers and staff are more than babysitters. The goal is to ensure that children will be successful in school.
Brochure printing is often used to offer more details about such partnerships and their benefits for students.
The Department of Early Education and Care of the state funds Head Start. Bliss said that contracts with the state have been secured so that a full day of educational programs for the children can be provided.
President of STCC, John Cook, said that having these Head Start classrooms on campus means that students can get real-world experience in the classroom and become the future hires of the program.
