The city of Springfield will be holding a lottery to offer a new home to two eligible families in the city.
Domenic Sarno, mayor of Springfield, said the city is working with leaders in the state to create a home buyer lottery system. This will enable two families who are income-eligible to have the chance to own a home in the north end of the city. The homes are located on Bancroft Street and on Jefferson Avenue and are funded by the Office of Housing in the city.
Those who are eligible need to have a household income less than 80 percent of the Area Median Income, but with a significant amount of equity, and be pre-approved for a mortgage to cover the price of the home. Poster printing is often used in key areas in a city to promote such lotteries and how to apply for them.
Sarno said that this lottery will help to strengthen the neighborhood of the north end. He added that it will enable people to plant their roots in the area, which always has a positive influence, regardless of the neighborhood. State Representative Carlos Gonzalez added that it will enable people to build wealth and to carry that forward to the next generation.
Applications for this lottery need to be submitted to the Office of Housing by 4:30 p.m. on Monday November 8.
