Senior center in Springfield gets new exercise equipment

The North End Senior Center at Brightwood in Springfield now has new state-of-the-art exercise equipment that was purchased by the city.

The new equipment includes a leg press, a chest press, a recumbent seat stepper, a dual adjustable pulley, and an abdominal and back extension rower. Such new equipment is often accompanied by Brochures and Booklets created by local Print shops to explain their purpose and use.

In February of last year, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Sandy Federico (Elderly Affairs Director), and Helen Caulton-Harris (Commissioner of Health and Human Services (HHS)), announced that the North End Center would reopen and there were plans to purchase new exercise equipment. The purchase of the equipment was also made possible with support from Maria Perez, Ward 1 City Councilor.

Mayor Sarno expressed his thanks to the HHS and Elderly Affairs directors and Councilor Maria Perez for working together to get this much-needed exercise equipment for the seniors in the North End Senior Center. He said that seniors will now be able to use this new equipment so they can stay physically fit and remain healthy.

Councilor Perez expressed her thanks to the mayor and his administration for always thinking about and caring for the seniors in the city. Perez said she was incredibly happy when the center opened last year, and even more so that the city has been able to keep its promise to deliver new state-of-the-art exercise equipment.
