New strip mall coming to Springfield
The Springfield Crossing construction project is underway; its goal is to reinvigorate the site that was once known as the Eastfield Mall, which closed in 2023.
Springfield Crossing will be a strip mall spanning 360,000 square feet. The plan is that BJ’s will anchor the project and will have a gas station as well as its general grocery store. Other retail establishments coming to Springfield Crossing will be Chick-Fil-A, Chipotle, and Target. Already under construction are PetSmart and Hobby Lobby.
Such sites often rely on banner printing to inform residents of such projects under construction and their benefits for a community.
Representative Angelo Puppolo said that this will be a project that is one of the largest in the city since MGM was built. He added that it will have a great mix of restaurants and retail establishments and will transform the site and complement the area. He said it be good for consumers and would bring many job opportunities to the area.
Zaida Govan, city council woman, said that with the opening of this mall, people will not need to go to Holyoke or Connecticut for their shopping needs. The project is expected to cost between $65 to $85 million.
The project was originally planned to open this summer, but the updated schedule is for a fall opening. Puppolo said that BJ’s wants to be open and running before Thanksgiving.
