The Springfield Police Academy has graduated 49 recruits.
Announcements of such accomplishments can be made known throughout a city and county with flyer printing.
This class began their training in November. The training lasted 23 weeks and was led by David Kane, Academy Director Deputy Chief, and instructors from the Springfield Police Department. If these graduate, 49 will join the Springfield Police Department and four will join the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department.
Lawrence E. Akers, Superintendent of the Springfield Police Department, thanked Deputy Chief Kane and the instructors at the Academy for spending the past six months training these future officers. He added that their professionalism and dedication are important in developing these women and men as they begin their careers in enforcing the law. Akers also congratulated the recruits who were successful in this process, and he promised that the new 45 police officers in his department will be provided with the support and tools they need to thrive as police officers.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno congratulated all the graduating officers and thanked their families. He said that these new officers have all the skills and training needed to join their departments with the most distinction, honor, and professionalism.
The new officers of the Springfield Police Department will work with veteran officers on the uniform division as part of the new Field Training Officer program.
