New coffee shop planned for West Springfield

Plans are underway to turn what was once a D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches shop in West Springfield into a Starbucks.

Daniel Hannoush of Daniba, LLC, purchased the property. Hannoush has submitted an application for a special permit to the town that would convert the building which is now vacant into a Starbucks restaurant with a drive-through with additional improvements to the site. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform residents of such developments.

The shop is on Riverdale Street, which is also Route 5. As the nature of the business at Starbuck’s is primarily quick turnover or drive-through which both reduce the number of visits inside the shop, there will be 23 parking spaces in the parking lot, one of which will be for handicapped access. The entrance-only driveway to the shop will be on Riverdale Street while the exit-only driveway will be on the other side of the property.

The improvements to the site will provide for one-way flow of traffic and landscaping appropriate for the shop. There will also be fencing to screen adjacent properties. It is anticipated that the improvements will improve the aesthetics of the existing building and site.

The property is being designed by R. Levesques Associates Inc. of Westfield.

Currently the closest Starbucks locations in this area are in Westfield and Springfield.
