Municipal buildings in Springfield to go solar

The city of Springfield will be purchasing all its solar energy from Fort River Solar 2, LLC based in Amherst.

The municipal buildings in the city will receive a 10 percent discount on their electricity through this agreement. The agreement overall will save close to $1.6 million in costs for electricity over the next 20 years. Announcements of such an important nature are often made known throughout a city with flyer printing.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno said that this agreement is not only a good and sound financial investment for the city but supports his administration’s commitment to the Climate Action and Resilience Plan of the city to utilize green energy initiatives and reduce the carbon footprint of the city.

TJ Plante, chief administrator and financial officer (CAFO) who took part in brokering the deal, said that the mayor is committed to the Climate Action and Resilience Plan of the city and this initiative is supported by Fort River Solar.

Patrick Sullivan, Executive Director of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management (PBRM), added that he along and CAFO Plante, under the direction of the mayor, were able to negotiate this agreement with Fort River Solar. He emphasized that this will save electricity costs for the city’s municipal buildings and will go a long way to expand the green energy initiatives of the city.
