Massachusetts Parents United opens new center

Massachusetts Parents United, an organization that gives parents a voice and helps them create a safer community for their children, recently opened a new center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The opening of the center, which took place on January 6th, was brought in with a celebration of Three Kings Day. This new center will allow interested parents to take place in meetings and learn more about how they can make changes in their community. Prior to the opening of this center, the only organization that allowed parents to do this was a small focus group that was held at the Springfield Public Library Brightwood Branch of the organization.

Keri Rodrigues, the founder of the organization, explained how the organization came to be and what it is setting out to do, saying:

"I was shocked to find out as a parent that I had no power and I know that the only way to build power is to come together and unite… We want to advocate for safer neighborhoods, safer housing, food security and access to great schools for all of our kids.”

She continues on to say that she intends to further expand the organization this year by opening centers in places such as Lynn, Holyoke, and Chelsea.
