Mardi Gras to be celebrated jazz-style in Springfield

Fat Tuesday Jazz Night will be held in Springfield later this month as a celebration of Mardi Gras.

The event will feature Creole cuisine, live music, and a joyful community atmosphere. The evening will start at 6:00 p.m. with Badia Farha, an Emmy and Grammy award winner, presenting “From Ella to Amy,” which will be a tribute to icons of jazz music. This will be followed at 8:15 p.m. with Samirah Evans and Her Handsome Devils, a local favorite featuring funk, jazz, and Mardi Gras tunes inspired by New Orleans.

Chef Wayne will also be bringing the flavors of Mardi Gras and Louisiana to Springfield with his authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. Local print shops can contribute to such events by creating creative menus to describe and highlight the dishes offered throughout such an evening.

The price of a ticket is $25 and includes the two performances, food, and a night of culture, music, and celebration. Proceeds from the event will go towards Blues to Green, which organizes the annual Springfield Jazz and Roots festival.

Blues to Green is an organization inspired by the music and life of Charles Neville who was one of the Neville Brothers from New Orleans and played the saxophone. The mission of Blues to Green is to provide free, high-quality arts programs to communities and to promote economic and cultural revitalization.

This event will be on Saturday February 22 at 52 Sumner in Springfield.
