Juneteenth to be celebrated in Springfield
Springfield will be hosting a series of events to celebrate Juneteenth this month.
Such distinctive events can be promoted throughout a city with poster printing.
The first event in the celebration is the Freedom Day Music Fest at Founders Park. This will feature keynote speakers and live music, as well as small businesses and vendors, and will be on Thursday, June 19 from noon to 7:00 pm.
The Moxie Cinema will then have a screening of “Hidden Figures.” This 2016 film is about Maty Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Katherine G. Johnson, all of whom were African American women who worked at NASA and were the geniuses behind the launch of John Glenn into space. This film will be shown on Thursday, June 19 at 7:00 pm at the Moxie Cinema.
Soon after, the recently renovated pavilion at Silver Springs Park will be celebrated with an unveiling. This historic park has deep roots in the Black community of Springfield. People can share their stories and bring the entire family to the celebration on Friday, June 20 at 5:00 pm.
Finally, the Juneteenth Community Celebration will be held at the Springfield Expo Center, with vendors, live music, activities for kids, and an award ceremony to honor local leaders. This will be on Saturday, June 21 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
