Golden Years Home Care Services in East Longmeadow is now hiring home health care workers and has created a free training program for those interested in working in the sector.
The training program guarantees employment after graduation. Residents of Springfield looking for work may be interested.
Mary Flahive, CEO of Golden Years, said that the industry of home health care is growing as many more seniors are preferring to remain at home rather than live in congregate living situations. Circumstances relating to the pandemic are only increasing this demand. Home health aides perform many types of duties that range from meal preparation and music therapy, to helping clients with their daily functions and personal care.
The program being offered by Golden Years is a 75-hour certification course for which at least $1,500 is typically charged. More information about such courses and the jobs they lead to is often provided with brochure printing.
Education on safety during this period is also part of the training, and includes such topics as infection control and the mandated use of personal protective equipment. Flahive said that upon completing the program, graduates would be guaranteed a job and most likely one that is full-time. The average wage for these workers in the western part of the state is $15 an hour.
