Grant awarded to Springfield for firefighters apparel

The Springfield Fire Department will be awarded a grant of $44,000 from the Last Call Foundation, allowing the department to purchase two pairs of Defender Briefs from 9 Alarm Apparel, Inc. for each of the 258 members of the department.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno first expressed his thanks to the many firefighters who go forth, often in danger to themselves, to save the lives of others. He also commended BJ Calvi, Fire Commissioner, and his leadership team for their proactive efforts and pursuing this unique grant that will help protect the brave and dedicated firefighters. He also called out Darcy Borecki, administrative analyst, and the team for their efforts in securing the funding that will provide the firefighters with innovative Apparel, along with technology that will keep them safe and protected.

Local Print shops can assist such departments in spreading the word about funding and its benefits throughout the city with Flyers and other printed materials.

Grant funding is provided by The Last Call Foundation to Fire Departments throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and surrounding states. 9 Alarm Apparel, Inc., based in Massachusetts, was founded by fireman Jonathan Bousquet and aims to provide firefighters with the products and tools that will reduce their risk of cancer. The Defender Briefs will help towards the aim by making firefighters’ skin less exposed to potentially cancerous particles.
