Although the nation celebrates its birthday on July 4, there is another important day that month, and an Oak Park business is celebrating it as well.
In July 1789, crowds stormed the Bastille—a military prison and fortress in Paris—an event that helped begin the French Revolution. The Bastille had become the symbol of the callous attitude of the French aristocracy, particularly King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette, and it was also a storehouse for supplies, including gunpowder, that were vital to the revolution. The fighting lasted most of the day and ended with the revolutionaries taking the Bastille. The day is a public holiday in France.
Now an Oak Park boutique has decided it will also celebrate Bastille Day. CarefulPeach is offering drinks, live music courtesy of the Radium Swing Band, both savory and sweet crêpes made by Magic Circle, delicious French macarons, and a raffle. Flyer printing can be used to create schedules for events like this.
CarefulPeach Specialties opened its doors in 2007 on Harrison Street in the Arts District. The business is now in Downtown Oak Park, offering table settings, china, Juliska glassware, linens, antiques, and American- and European-made jewelry. The owner has modeled the enterprise after a traditional department store that might be found in Europe.
Although Bastille Day is July 14, CarefulPeach is celebrating July 10, from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm. Everyone is welcome.
