Oak Park to host Juneteenth fair and picnic

The Village of Oak Park will organize a community gathering in June to promote local businesses.

Oak Park’s Juneteenth Celebration is an annual event where people can support Black-owned businesses in their community and enjoy family-friendly activities. There will be a Juneteenth Community Cookout that will feature resource booths, activities for kids, and music entertainment. The business and resource fair will be held on the south lawn of Village Hall. There is no cost for Black-owned businesses and community organizations to register for the event.

People can also take part in the Juneteenth Flag-Raising Ceremony at Village Hall. Guests at the ceremony can enjoy live music and refreshments. There will even be a spoken word performance at the event. The headlining act for the ceremony is the Kuumba Kids, a performing arts group for children that celebrates African culture by teaching kids about different dances. The organization created the Arts in Education program to share information about African culture with local schools.

The Juneteenth Flag-Raising Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 11th, and the community picnic and business fair will take place on Saturday, June 14th. No registration is required for families who want to attend these events, though people who wish to volunteer for these activities can sign up in advance. Towns in charge of similar events may use banner printing to advertise their cultural programs.
