Arlington Heights gets preview of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead
A couple of preview performances of Tom Stoppard’s zany ‘Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead’ will be coming to town in a few days.
This modern dramatic masterpiece is a twist on the tale of Shakespeare’s Hamlet as seen through the eyes of two minor characters. In the style of Laurel and Hardy, the two discover their friend Hamlet’s cold-blooded intensions and then are appointed to escort Hamlet to England. The result is a mix of reality and illusion, which is shown in the play’s promotional flyers.
Director Josh Sobel has wanted to do this play for a long time now. He especially enjoys its language-driven nature, and feels that it has both realistic dialogue and quick-witted poetic lines. Sobel sees the play as bizarre, theatrical, hysterical, and tragic all at the same time.
The performance will be at the Metropolis Performing Arts Center’s Main Stage, 111 West Campbell Street here in Arlington Heights. The curtain will go up at 7:30 pm and the performance will end at 10:00 pm. The initial preview performance will be tomorrow, February 2. Other preview performances will be February 3 through 5th. Tickets for these performances will be $30.
After this, the regular run performances will be February 8 through March 18, and tickets during these dates will be $38.
