Arlington Heights commemorates 100th anniversary of modern Poland
Internationally acclaimed Lira Ensemble will be bringing its Polish Celebration to our performing arts center in mid-January.
This production celebrates the post-WWII rebirth of Poland. The program will include American and Polish patriotic songs, as well as traditional Polish folk dance and song.
The company is composed of the chamber ensembles, dancers, singers and a symphony orchestra. The Lira Singers are composed of from eight to fourteen professional fine arts women vocalists. The Chamber Chorus is eight to twelve male singers along with the Lira Singers. The symphony will be composed of 40 to 60 instrumentalists and the chamber ensembles will be smaller groups of string, piano and woodwind quartets and quintets of musicians holding first chair positions in the orchestra.
Music and dance will be done in the original language with English translation explaining the history and traditions behind each work. Artists will be wearing authentic folk garb when appropriate and historically correct costumes from Polish history. Some local Polish organizations may like to take pictures of the groups in their colorful costumes and send the pictures to print shops for poster printing.
With support from the National Endowment for the Arts, state and local art and cultural councils, this group is one of the Midwest’s most successful ethnic arts groups.
Lira Ensemble will have two performances on Saturday, January, 19, - one at 3:00 pm and the other at 7:30 pm at the Metropolis Performance Art Centre, 111 W. Campbell St.
