Arlington Heights area gets Oktoberfest in September

Oktoberfest is coming to the Arlington Heights area in mid-September. The three-day weekend will have food, German beverages, live music, and activities.

The event will begin with the traditional opening ceremonies. There will be a short parade followed by a brief traditional blessing. The 2018 Queen and King will then be crowned.

The next day will kick off with the Bridge’s Annual Color Fun Run. A 5K event, runners will receive T-shirts with the event’s graphic design on the front.

After the run, registration for the free Oktoberfest Family Bike Ride will begin 30 minutes before the ride. The casual ride will begin at the corner of Slade and Smith Streets and go to Deer Grove Forest Preserve and back.

After the ride, the event opens up with face painting and birdhouse construction with materials donated by our local Home Depot. The Palatine Police Department will begin their K-9 dog unit demonstrations, and the fire department will showcase its rescue vehicle and fire response display. Local organizations will have live performances, and the scarecrow and poster winners will be announced.

The festival will be September 14, 15, and 16 under the big heated tent near the Metra Station in Palatine. The Bridge Color Run ‘18 will take place at 9:30 at 150 W. Palatine Road. Bike ride registration will start at 11:00 am and the ride starts at 11:30 am.
