Upscale apartments on the build in Shelton

The Mark apartment complex and clubhouse, which used to be Valley Glen, is currently under construction in Shelton.

According to Shelton Economic Development Commission chairman James Ryan, there are a healthy number of residential sales in Shelton. The six-building development on Route 8 and Bridgeport Avenue will consist of 228 apartments marketed to affluent tenants. The prospective tenants will aid the growing job market and lowering taxes.

The apartments will range from studios to two-bedroom units going for $1,500 to $2,000 for around 1,200 feet of space. At first, the town believed the complex would pull people away from the commercial remodels. Ryan disagreed, saying Shelton could have the best of both worlds in the downtown area.

Tenants are expected to start moving in six months from now, when one or two buildings are finished. It will take a full year for the complex to be fully completed. This year's winter will decide how quickly the project gets completed.

It is hoped that the addition to upscale residents in the apartment complex will make Shelton a more attractive area for more people wanting to start their lives in Connecticut. It will also bring in more funds for the local government and economy.
