An upcoming event in Shelton is devoted to a very popular fungus, the mushroom.
The Fungi Frolic Mushroom Festival is a fun, affordable event for the entire family. In addition to loads of mushrooms, there will be vendors, artists, activities especially for the youngsters, authors, live music, goats (yes, goats), holistic health practitioners, guided foraging, and more.
Some mushrooms are called “medicinal mushrooms,” and have been used in traditional and holistic medicine for centuries. Some of the common medicinal mushrooms are those known as reishi, also called the “mushroom of immortality”; the lion’s mane; and chaga. Holistic health experts can explain more to interested visitors.
Guided forging will give people who want to pick their own mushrooms the information they need to do it safely, as some mushrooms are poisonous, and deaths have been reported when people pick and eat the wrong fungi. Small groups led by experienced mycologists or foragers will explore the local area, identify the wild mushrooms there, and learn how to harvest them safely, without damaging the environment.
The festival is set for October 3, from 10.00 am until 6.00 pm, at Holy Ghost Park in Shelton. Tickets are already on sale and are $7.32 for adults ($5.00 plus fee), while children 12 and under are free. When they create events like this, organizers can work with flyer printing to create informative handouts for those attending.
