Residents sweep Shelton clean

An annual event is returning to Shelton to keep the city clean.

Shelton is devoting a week to the Shelton Clean Sweep; the 19th time residents will have a chance to ensure the cleanliness of their community.

There are several steps to the process. First, plan or join a cleanup effort. Second, organize volunteers. Third, register the group. Fourth, pick up the equipment (Bags and gloves) at City Hall. Fifth, clean up. Sixth, call Highways and Bridges to pick up the trash. Seventh, file a report (and get a badge).

People are encouraged to plan and/or join cleanup efforts in their own neighborhoods because there are many opportunities to pick up trash from schools, roads, waterways, and open spaces. Examples include neighbors cleaning up an empty lot, or a Scout troop picking up around a school.

There is a public cleanup scheduled for those who are interested. Anyone who would like to work on the Shelton Lakes Greenway should meet with the Litter Committee at the Shelton Avenue Trailheads under the powerlines. After checking in and picking up litter Bags, participants in this effort can choose where they prefer to work, either on the trails, the street, the school grounds, or along the reservoirs.

Shelton Clean Sweep starts April 18 and winds up on April 26. Those who want to clean up the Shelton Lakes Greenway will also meet on April 18 at 9.00 am. Citywide events like this can be advertised with poster printing.
