A popular local theater has announced its upcoming 2026 season.
Francesca and Gary Scarpa founded the Center Stage Theatre in 2005. The project began as a coffee shop/bookstore combination with a black-box theater included. The theater was a success, but the bookstore was not, so the Scarpas turned their attention to its operation, with the result it has become a major asset to the community. Center stage mounts five full-scale shows annually, four with actors who are age-appropriate for their roles, and one with a cast of college and high school students.
The theater prides itself on being an intergenerational and inclusive community theater where all are welcome. It enjoys giving affordable, high-quality performances, as well as educational programs, and opportunities for community members to become involved by volunteering.
The season begins with “Matilda,” followed by “Jerry’s Girls,” “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical,” “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” and “Bye, Bye Birdie.” The “SpongeBob” show will use the younger cast.
“Matilda” is based on Roald Dahls’ 1988 novel “Matilda.” It details the adventures of Matilda Wormwood, a precocious little girl gifted with telekinesis, who is a voracious reader and overcomes problems at home and at school. It has been performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, in the West End, and premiered on Broadway in 2013.
“Matilda” opens on February 20, kicking off the 21st season at Center Stage. Posters are a traditional mechanism for advertising events like this. Organizers can find these products at local Print shops.
