Tribute to rock legend near Shelton

A tribute band to one of the iconic figures in rock music is scheduled near Shelton.

The Janis Joplin Experience was founded in 2017 to honor the late vocalist. Joplin was only 27 when she died in 1970, but she still retains a strong influence over the music industry. She was known for her brash vocal style, which she honed as lead singer for the band Big Brother and the Holding Company. Her list of hits include covers of “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Piece of My Heart.”

The Experience is comprised of Lisa Polizzi handling the lead vocals. She has performed throughout the region at theater festivals, and some of the largest venues on Long Island. She grew up listening to Motown and rockabilly, but even at the age of 17, she was told she resembled Joplin. After hearing the comment numerous times, she formed The Experience. She has her own cover band and performs with them often. She auditioned for the role of Joplin on Broadway, and although she wasn’t cast, she was called back twice.

The artists who comprise this version of Big Brother and the Holding Company are Richard Thomas on bass, Stewart Lieberman on keyboards, Michael Leccese on guitar, and Rick Wolanski on the drums.

The Janis Joplin Experience will appear at the High Plains Community Center, 525 Orange Center Road in Orange, Connecticut, a short distance from Shelton. Events like this can be publicized by organizers using poster printing to create advertising.
