A special event is scheduled to take place in Orange, a short distance from Shelton, and it promises to make the trip worth the effort.
Nutmeg & Oak is the organizer of their first ever Paella and Wine Paring Event, which will take place at Stappa Vineyard. The evening is in the capable hands of Chef Alberto Salas, who will share his passion and knowledge of how to make the perfect paella. Chef Salas will discuss the history of the dish, which is Spanish in origin, and how to make it. Stappa Vineyard’s experts will choose four wines to pair with the meal.
Admission includes reserved seating, a welcome cocktail, education in both paella and wine, a four-wine flight of Stappa wines, an opportunity to network, and a cooking demonstration.
The chef will prepare two different types of paella, Paella Valenciana and Paella Mediterranean. The former is made with paella bomba rice, saffron, tomato sofrito, butter beans, snow peas, pork, and chicken, while the Mediterranean version includes paella bomba rice, saffron, tomato sofrito, mixed peppers, white fish, clams, mussels, squid, baby scallops, and fresh jumbo shrimp.
Attendees should note this is not a cooking class, but a demonstration, and the evening is limited to those 21 years of age and older. The dinner is on Valentine’s Day, February 14, from 6.30 pm until 8.30 pm. Stappa Vineyard is at 403 Derby Avenue in Orange.
