One of summer’s most enjoyable activities is attending outdoor performances and residents of Shelton have one last chance to enjoy a concert.
The Shelton Parks & Recreation Department presented the 2023 Music Under the Stars Summer Concert Series, which began in late June. The final concert is on the way and will feature the Silver Steel Band, who play steel drums.
Silver Steel Band is based in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and is directed by Brian Ente and Jim Royle of Jim Royle Drum Studios. The group is a steel drum band that plays music from the Caribbean as well as Calypso and Soca-styled tunes from Tobago and Trinidad. The band has been together for thirteen years, and continues to get audiences on their feet, smiling and dancing.
The band was founded in 2010, when Brian Ente and Jim Royle were teaching students how to play steel pan. Some of the students’ parents said they wanted to learn as well as it looked like fun, and that was the beginning of Silver Steel.
Steel drums get their name from the fact they are cut from 55-gallon drums. They originated in Trinidad and Tobago and are also known as “steelpans.”
The concert is September 6 on Huntington Green in Shelton. Organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create Signs that identify the group. Banners are easy to install and suitable for outdoor use.
