Teachers have selected nine students in Shelton schools as winners of an essay contest about female historical figures in Connecticut.
Six students won from Perry Hill School (Jake Michelson, Aislynn Kostandini, Kate Clomiro, Bella O'Rourke, Jessie Nielsen, and Zach Prindle). Three students from St. Joseph school (Emma Romaniello, Brian Romaniello, and Ethan Novicio) also took home the achievement for their writing efforts.
Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan rewarded the students with Visa gift cards worth $25 each. During an awards ceremony, Connecticut Republican Senator Kevin Kelly and Republican Representative Jason Perillo awarded the students with plaques and posed for a group photo with them, along with the branch manager of Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan, Pam Ellsworth.
The topic of the 300-word essay was ‘Important Women in CT history and how their contribution to the state and nation affect me’. Senator Kelly noted that the students' writing creates a picture of how the youth of today view history. He encourages them to keep writing toallow their talent to grow and their ideas to flourish.
When a large group of students win the same award, officials will often use skilled Print companies to mass produce the plaque or certificate and then sign them individually. Awards given by senators and representatives must look very professional and be printed on high quality paper.
