Shelton planning commission to meet in late January

Towards the end of the month, the Planning and Zoning Commission in Shelton will met at City Hall and talk about zoning and development in the city.

One zone accounts for most of the development and has created concerns among residents. Mark Widomski, a member of the commission, had doubts about Planned Development Districts (PDDs) and pressed to hold a meeting. He believes the city is using PDDs too often and not in the best way, so suggests a moratorium on them.

Anthony Panico, a zoning consultant for the city, might create possible alterations to the PDD rules that the commission can discuss. Other members of the commission believe they must take charge on how to proceed, as the regulations have not changed in around 12 years.

There was a preliminary meeting on January 8 where Widomski advised on PDD issues and listening to planning and zoning members rather than rewriting the rules. According to Virginia Harger, a chairperson who concurred with Widomski, discussing PDDs with planning and zoning will take more than one meeting. Panico joined the meeting by phone and said the commission needs a clearer picture and a consensus on its intentions. That may entail adding stricter regulations on PDD use and clarifying any gray areas.

The commission can Print notice of any new regulations using Letterheads following the January 29 meeting, which will begin at 7:00 pm.
