On Wednesday, April 16, at University Field, Fairfield Prep School Jesuits lacrosse players showed promise of chemistry during their game against our own Shelton Gaels, with a final score of 18-6 in their favour. This brought the Jesuits to 2-1 for the season, and the Gaels slipped to 1-2.
Fairfield coach Chris Smalkais attributed the win to moving, sharing, and passing the ball frequently. It took almost a quarter before the Jesuits began to pull away; Chris Brown and Cam Harris scored four goals each while John Edmonds scored three. Edmonds agreed that the passing style was crucial to his team’s win.
Fairfield players pounded the Shelton goals with 30 shots during the game, but Gaels coach Matt Read expressed his pride in the team’s defense, saying.
"All the times that we played them before, we haven't scored what we did today. I would've liked to have kept their score down a little bit, but we can only do so much. We play defense a lot of the time, so eventually a team's going to chip away at you."
Both teams will no doubt be hoping they can build on the positives they have taken from the game and reach the postseason in June. If they are successful, they may want to hire a banner printing company to spread the news of their success.
