Shelton double header ends in victory

Shelton comes into the midseason in a promising position, scoring 5-3 against Danbury and 2-0 against the Bethel Hatters on July 1.

The game with the American Legion Post 16 in Shelton versus Danbury had been suspended in the early season due to rain. It concluded with combined efforts of Will Ciccone, Ryan Murphy, and Garrett Cafaro to achieve a Shelton win.

Murphy's three-run triple and Cicone and Cafaro's pitching closed out the Sunday game. In addition, the 2-0 game saw the winning runs scored by David Wells with Ricardo Torres bringing a 93-pitch game with one hit and three walks.

Following the two wins came noon, and a loss against Bethel 3-1, aided by a 3-0 lead in the first inning combined with three Shelton errors. The loss of pitcher Tyler Cafaro due to injury was an additional setback. Along with a 2-0 win against Washington on June 26, Shelton's midpoint campaign leaves them at a 5-9 record.

Coach Tom Murphy is hopeful they can qualify for the postseason, seeing improved performance as the season has gone on, but they will need to beat the teams ahead of them to secure placement.
