Run for awareness in Shelton

An upcoming event in Shelton brings awareness to an important health issue.

The 7th Annual 5k Walk/Run for Overdose Awareness will give participants a chance to enjoy physical activity and support two important efforts: BHcares Alliance for Prevention & Wellness; and F.A.D.E (Fighting Against Drugs Everywhere), which works to raise awareness the dangers of drug use. The mission of BHcares is to support good mental health by preventing behaviors, including substance misuse that put health at risk.

Participants may decide whether they are going to walk or run the distance, which is a scenic course that is perfect for people of every age. The start of the race is near the Shelton Riverwalk, at Inline Plastics Corporation. When they plan outdoor events such as this, organizers can work with banner printing to create sturdy signage to mark the course.

The event begins with runners picking up their packets from 4.30 pm until 5.30 pm. At 5.30 pm, introductions will be made, and the race proper will begin at 6.00 pm. A Candlelight Vigil, with an appearance by a special speaker, will follow the race.

The race is timed and is scheduled for June 26. The fee is $40 for older runners, while children ten and younger can take part for free - though they will not be eligible for a T-shirt. Older participants can still register on race day, and people who sign up prior to June 18 will receive a free T-shirt.
