A popular fast-casual chain is opening its doors again in Shelton, although in a new location.
Panera Bread, which already had a store in Shelton, closed that shop in 2021 and recently reopened in Fountain Square, a commercial complex. According to Bill Purcell, the president of the local Chamber of Commerce, the reimagined Panera store will have a drive-thru option. Purcell believes the addition of the drive-up window will be a substantial draw for customers.
Purcell noted that Panera Bread has been a valued and active member of the Chamber of Commerce for many years and went on to say everyone wished it great success in the Fountain Square location.
The Fountain Square development will house retailers, a pharmacy, a hotel, restaurants, and office spaces. MMA Architects, who designed the project, incorporated pedestrian walkways into the design to make it convenient for people to enjoy a recreational or shopping experience.
In 1987, Linda and Ken Rosenthal founded the Saint Louis Bread Company. In 1993, Au Bon Pain Company bought the Saint Louis Bread Company, and in 1997 renamed the company as Panera. The word comes from the Latin for “breadbasket” and the same word is used in Spanish. Panera serves soups and sandwiches, but is probably best known for its bakery items. The chain now has over 2,000 stores in the US and Canada.
To encourage patronage at new locations, companies can use flyer printing to create announcements to mail to customers in the area.
