An annual event to clean up Shelton is on the schedule.

The 15th Annual Clean Sweep will run for a full week, and all residents are invited to participate. Poster printing provides organizers events like this with a great way to publicize them.

There are several steps people need to follow to join Shelton Clean Sweep. First, anyone who wants to take part needs to join or plan to pick up litter in their neighborhood.

Participants need to decide whether to work alone or with others; either is fine. They alsoneed to register their planned cleanup area as early as possible, so organizers know if there are too many teams in one place.

Gloves and Bags should be picked up from Teresa Gallagher, the Natural Resource Manager, at City Hall, Room 102.

Moving on to the start of the actual cleanup effort, participants can pick up trash anytime during the designated week, and people who cannot clean during this period are still eligible for free gloves, bags, and Clean Sweep patches.

If necessary, cleaners may leave accumulated trash along the closest roadway, and call Highways and Bridges to pick it up. They should file a cleanup report showing how much litter was collected.

Finally, participants should email the city to request a Clean Sweep patch, which features a red fox.

Clean Sweep runs during the Earth Day week, beginning April 16 and ending April 24.
