Shelton, Connecticut, residents who enjoy live theater recently received good news.
The Shelton Center Stage Theatre just announced its 2023 season. The community theater, which is intergenerational and inclusive, will offer four musicals, a play by one of America’s best-known playwrights, a bonus musical, and a celebration of the productions presented by the Youth CONNection for 40 years.
First up is “Xanadu,” a roller-skating musical based on the film of that name featuring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. Nominated for a Tony, “Xanadu” follows the adventures of an Olympian goddess, Kira, who falls in love with a mortal.
“A Grand Night for Singing” is a revue that takes a fresh, sometimes wacky, look at the work of Rodgers & Hammerstein, the legendary Broadway creative duo.
“Catch Me if You Can,” which was nominated for four Tonys, follows the adventures of Frank Abignale, Jr., a teenager who runs away from his ordinary life to pursue his dreams. Unfortunately financing them with forged Checks brings him to the attention of the FBI.
Neil Simon’s farce “Rumors” is also on the list, as is “All Shook Up,” based loosely on “Twelfth Night” by Shakespeare, and featuring classic Elvis tunes like “Jailhouse Rock” and “Heartbreak Hotel.” The bonus musical is ““The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”
The season kicks off on February 17 with “Xanadu.” When events like these are planned, organizers can use poster printing to advertise them.
