The Murray Gymnasium held the Southern Connecticut Conference Championships on May 29th where the Shelton volleyball team, the Gaels, triumphantly took home the title with a score of 25-18 against the Xavier Falcons.
The Gaels have not won the SCC Championships in seven years. Shelton won their first couple of games with ten or more points ahead of the competition. Erik Kocur, Grant Fevrier, and T.J. Nicholas demonstrated competitive spirit in the first row. Hunter Yocum and Mike Scarpa kept the center while Rhodric McCurdy dominated the offense. Matt Wojslaw and Patrick Devaney stood out through their time near the net.
The Falcons, who have made it to the championships three out of the four past years, fought hard against the Gaels, bringing them into a fourth game by three points. There were a dozen stalemates in the third game when the Falcons finished with the win. McCurdy scored the final four points in the fourth game and the win for the title. The Gaels have since defeated Greenwich High in the first game of the Class L tournament.
Championships even for high school teams often have sponsors, and reputable local brochure printers are ideally placed to create game programs, that feature promotional information about them along with in-depth information about the team, its players past and present and statistics about its run in the competition.
