The Shelton High girls’ soccer team are making up for a bad season last year with double digit wins and a push for the playoffs. However, one goal gave Cheshire the win in the recent semifinals.
The team beat Trumbull during round one of the Class LL tournament for girls’ soccer. The game took place at Finn Stadium on November 4 with a score of five to two. Two goals each were scored by Samantha Hartmayer and Kaleigh Panek, while Alexis Zoppi assisted throughout the game. Trumbull's two goals were scored through free kicks. Their coach agreed that Shelton worked hard for their win.
Marvin Miller, coach of the Shelton Gaels, stated that getting to the tournament itself is an amazing achievement and whatever happens from that point is a well-deserved bonus. The team focused on center offense and ball control, which eventually came good for them despite a difficult start. Alexis Zoppi, who sustained an injury to her knee last year, said she was happy with how the team played during the game.
Given that the coach is pleased with the girls getting into the Class LL tournament, he and the team's sponsors may want to invest in a shirt printing company to commemorate their achievements. The company could also give them a discount in exchange for its logo on the shirts' tags.
