Gaelettes win against New Britain

On February 27, the girls’ basketball team for Shelton High School defeated the Golden Hurricanes of New Britain. It was the first round of the Connecticut Class LL playoffs and the final score was 37-28.

New Britain's Gabriella Roy proved to be a potential challenge for the Gaelettes when she scored six three-pointers against Branford. Roy was only able to make two points this game, since Shelton aimed to prohibit New Britain's outside shots when she had the ball. Erin Adler, Kayla Resto, Colleen Flood, and Maggie Howard kept their guard tight around Roy. The rest of the game, Shelton relied on zone defense.

With 12 points, Casey O'Connor scored the most out of any other player, with Sarah Skronski scoring nine, eight scored by Resto, and Adler and Flood scored four.

Shelton kept the lead throughout the whole game and was up by three points after the first quarter. It was 16-12 by half time, and 28-20 by the end of the third.

Coach Joseph Cavallaro believes Shelton's defense was solid but the offense was stronger in the second half. He expressed his happiness for the seniors who will end their high school sports career with a win.

A photo of the girls’ basketball team would be a good entry for the school calendar during basketball season. The caption could detail their final ranking.
