What's Happening in Shelton, CT…

A fine artist will be coming to Shelton for a special event.

Frank Bruckmann will be the guest of the Sheldon Art League, where he will present “Still Life Painting – Oil.” Bruckmann is a New Jersey native who discovered oil painting while he was still in his twenties. He studied at the DuCret School of Art in Plainfield, New Jersey, and the Art Students League in New York City.

He went to Europe for a decade, studying in Paris at the Paris American Academy and the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Seeking an in-depth understanding of the Great Masters, he began doing something artists have done for centuries – copying the work of others. He went to the Louvre and the Musee D’Orsay to copy artists like Cezanne and Franz Halls, then spent time at the Museo de Prado in Madrid, reproducing works by artists like El Greco.

He was able to support himself by selling his own works, which were largely museum reproductions or local landscapes. He exhibited in groups or solo before returning to the United States, where he obtained a studio in South Norwalk, Connecticut, and discovered the beauty of the local area.

He has done several series of paintings depicting seascapes, cityscapes, landscapes, and more. His series have included “Mohegan Island,” “New Haven,” and the “Highway Series.”

The event is scheduled for Monday, March 17 at Shelton Community Center, 41 Church Street. When they plan events like this, organizers often use flyer printing to create handouts to distribute locally.
