Country music coming to Shelton

A country band plans to play its music in Shelton soon.

Country Steel is a five-piece modern country group that plays covers of popular songs. Their setlist includes songs such as “She’s in Love with the Boy” by Trisha Yearwood, “Can’t Ya See” by the Marshall Tucker Band, and many others. The band is based in Northwest Connecticut, and plays at numerous events like weddings, as well as appearing in venues like Cuppy’s.

The five members of the group currently are drummer/vocalist Charles David Lowe, lead vocalist Bobbi Jo, lead vocalist Gina Beligni, Steve Grinold on guitar, and bassist Shane Chasse. Lane has been playing throughout Connecticut since 1980 with a lot of great outfits. He cites Elton John, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles as influences.

Bobbi Jo is making her first appearance in a band with Country Steel, though she is no stranger to performing, having appeared frequently on The Warner Theatre stage. Gina Beligni, who has been singing all her life, comes from a musical family and grew up hearing Big Band Swing, and artists like Joan Baez and Simon and Garfunkel.

Steve Grinold learned to love music from an uncle who played guitar, and was inspired by The Beatles’ 1964 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Steve Chasse began playing when he was a child, influenced by his family’s love of music.

Country Steel’s show is scheduled for April 5. Events like this are often advertised with Posters, which organizers can find at Print shops.
