What's Happening in Shelton, CT…

Mark Lauretti, mayor of Shelton, has named next week (September 17 to 23) to be Constitution Week.

Lauretti mentioned that September 17 of this year marks 232 years after the Constitution was drafted. He added that the document protects the nation's liberties and represents the morals of a law-abiding dedicated republic and a limited government. Finally, he urged residents to take a look at the Constitution and think about what it means to be US citizen, the rights and privileges they are given, and the responsibilities that come with them.

Patricia King, the regent of the Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, thanked Lauretti as he presented her with the Proclamation. She said the town has many patriots from the American Revolution who fought against the British. She concurred with Lauretti that residents should be vigilant in conserving those liberties and teach the same values to the next generation in order to honor the memory of those who won the war.

One of the DAR's missions is to preserve vehemently the guaranteed freedoms to American citizens through the US Constitution. Its core mission is to preserve, educate, and advocate for the nation's history. Prospective members include adult women who can prove their lineage with a Revolutionary War soldier.

During town celebrations, historic organizations use banner printing to advertise the event and let the public know it is important.
